Rice. What more do I have to say? Rice is a staple of the Filipino food culture. I can honsetly say that I have nearly never had a meal without having rice on my plate, the only time you'll catch me without rice is if I'm eating out or at a resturant. The reason behind this is because in the Philippines there are many rice farms. you must be asking why are there some many rice farms. Its because the land is prime for it and it is cheap to produce. Also this these farms make up a large amount of the income for the Philippines. The Philippines alone makes up about 2.8 percent of the total rice production. In one year they can produce and manufacture over 15 metic tons of rice. With that amount of production you can understand why rice is such a pivital part of the Filipino food culture. Now back to why I eat rice nearly every meal. Well it's because almost every Filipino dish revloves around rice. You add rice to soup to give it texture, you put your stew over rice to soak up the juice, you mix rice with your meat to add more substance, you could probaly even build a house out rice, as you can you see the uses for rice are endless.

Great work, Alec! :) Coming from a Filipino family as well, I've grown up eating all of my meals with rice. Although nowadays, I don't feast on traditional Filipino meals as I used to, whenever I do for family events and such, no plate is ever complete without rice. I guess I never truly took the time to think about it, but it's fascinating to think about how much rice is used in Filipino dishes. I studied Japan, and their cuisine is also based off of rice. I find that most Oriental and Asian cultures use rice as their main base. Initially, I always assumed that rice was just a custom, but now I know that rice is abundant in Asian countries due to the amount of rice farms. My grandmother always tells me stories of working on rice paddies. For me, rice will always be an irreplaceable tradition.
