Sunday dinners are a big part of life in the South, since it is majorly Christian. Usually the whole family will not be doing anything on Sundays. This means that families or extended families can have a large meal where everyone can get together and have a nice meal. Usually large amounts of meat are present at these dinners. It could be barbecue or chili or jumbalaya. Sunday dinners are a form of a holiday but aren’t as festive. They are more of a tradition that most families will uphold. Sunday dinners will usually have cornbread on the side and pie for dessert. The dinners are normally cooked in the hosts kitchen and not ordered from a restaurant. The Sundays are important because most of the south is farmland, where the famers work early in the morning until sundown. On Sundays, farmers don’t go out and work because it is the sabbath and work shouldn’t be done, according to christianity. Because the farmers or workers don’t have work, they have the day to spend with their families preparing a tasty dinner.

ReplyDeleteSince my family is not from the south, I am only familiar with what I hear or the phase, " southern comfort food." It was interesting to read that families in the south still make Sunday dinners a priority with everyones busy schedules. Also, I didn't realize what a large amount of meat is used with their meals.
