All Native American tribes have a similar diet. Based on whole grains, corn, berries, deer, and fish. Such a diet can only have one affect on your body. Native Americans have been said to have the healthiest of diets. Two doctors at the Weston A. Price Foundation claim that the Native American's diet is, "rich in polyunsaturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids but relatively low in overall fat and very low in that dietary villain-saturated fat. This is the one dietary factor that health officials tell us is responsible for all the health problems that plague us(current Americans)-everything from cancer and heart disease to obesity and MS." So if current Americans were to eat as the Native Americans did, we would probably a less sick people. Another thing that is different about our culture now, is that the vegetables we get now are altered. Corn back in when the Cherokee were around was not genetically modified. Now GMO corn has infected our general population.

GMO corn has a similar affect on our organ system like how Tita's tears affected the wedding cake's flavor, in the book Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Currently, I am happy to say I have a diet similar to the Native Americans. Buying organic food is very important in my family. When I was younger I used to hate that we never had any chips in the house. But then I realized my family was just doing this to keep us healthy. Americans now should try to eat more organic foods and turn their diet back to basic foods, instead of processed ones.

I found have a traditional Cherokee recipe that would be fantastic with organic ingredients: http://www.cherokee.org/AboutTheNation/Culture/CookBook/Kanuchi.aspx

  1. Native American tribe diets sound very delicious. The Native American culture of food is not very similar to Frances culture. French diets consist of diverse and different foods while Native American food is all remotely similar. That’s good that the Cherokee don’t use genetically mortified food. I really appreciate how the Cherokee stayed to their roots and use only thing you find in Mother Nature. As for the diet, Cherokee and French are similar in which they both stay fit and get food from this earth. I can’t wait to see and taste what you bring in on your food fest day.
