Reflection Questions Feb-June
1. The example on page 37 provides a time when Tita rebelled. When she played hooky with some of the village boys because she was sick of her sisters' games, she she went against traditional gender roles. I believe this scene is significant because she ended up winning the swimming race, and this shows that when she does do things for herself and make her own decisions, she is successful. Tita has the potential to be herself and make her own decisions, and when she has these couple times you can see what she can be when Mama Elena wasn't holding her back.
2. -Rosaura and Pedro: I would say that this relationship really fits into any of the categories. There isn't any feelings or love towards each other. In fact, the only reason Pedro married her was to become closer to Rosaura's sister, Tita.
-Tita and Pedro: The category for this relationship would have to be desire in my opinion because even though Mama Elena is not letting them be together or even come close to each other, there is definitely a strong desire from both Tita and Pedro to be with each other.
-Gertrudis and Juan Alejandrez: I would give this relationship the category passion because there really didn't seem like there was much between the two, and then all of a sudden Juan went to her and they rode off on a horse while making love with each other. It all happened very fast and there definitely wasn't any love or real feelings for each other.
-Tita and John: Even though they have only been together a short time since Mama Elena kicked her out, I would say there is love in this relationship. You can clearly see how much John likes Tita by the caring things he does for her. He has volunteered to take care of her and help Tita with her family problems. He shows her lots of attention and is very thoughtful when with her. Even though Tita seems to be unsure about whether he's the one, i do believe that she does have feelings about him and those feelings will continue to grow as she spends much more time with him and realizes that Pedro is not going to work out.
-I think the quote from John seems to say that you shouldn't have to push situations that may not work. By keeping the light dim you be patient and trust that whatever is destined to happen to you will happen. At some point the light will sine bright and your future will open up for you to find your path.
