The
common perception of Indians is that they are vegetarians and to a
certain extent that is true , however, there is a large portion of
the population who eat meat, but omnivores and herbivores are not
the topic of this post, it is whether the food Indians eat is
healthy. On the whole the food Indians eat is very healthy, most
foods include boiled veggies mixed in a broth with meat of some stir
fried veggies or some other way of cooking veggies. Most Indians eat
a lot of vegetables prepared in many different ways, all of them are
delicious. I did say on the whole, there is a small type of Indian
cooking which uses a lot of butter and cream with meat and little to
no vegetables, and although this type of cooking is very delicious it
isn't healthy, but if I had to compare the Indian diet to the
American diet, in terms of healthiness, the Indian diet wins. Some of
the best Indian recipes are the healthiest, my personal favorite is
mutter paneer, which is peas mixed with tomato sauce and some ricotta
cheese and some recipes have cream some don't. Another recipe I like
is saag paneer which is pureed spinach with some ricotta cheese and
that's it. In India there isn't a problem with diet, people know what
they should and shouldn't eat and most people have grown up eating
veggies cooked in a delicious yet healthy ways. In Like Water For
Chocolate, food is used to express emotion every time a new emotion
is felt there is a new food, and Indian food is no different, there
are foods that are made during happy times and foods that are made
during sad times.

I would like to thank you Nate. Indian food is one of the cultures I know nothing about, as you know from my jokes. LOL. Anyways, you introduced me to such a great culture of food. I am really hoping you decide to make something stir fry, I love stir fry. I truly was enlightened by your blog and its amazing how many good foods the Indians either eat or have created. Thanks again for the read, very good.
