The culture I am choosing to focus on for this project is the country of Belguim. The main reason I chose this culture is because my interest and love of waffles. other than that little bit of interest I know next to nothing about Belgian food culture and what they actually choose to eat. I hope to find out what these people eat other than in the morning and really get a handle on the culture of belguim and the rest of central Europe. Some interesting facts is that Belgians are very big consumers of beer. There are over 800 different types of beer made in belgium and on average, each belgian consumes up to 150 liters of beer per year. Belgium claims to be the maker of the orignial french fry (also known as chips). And lastly, the brussels airport in belgium is the biggest chocolate selling point in the world. Belgiums culture is one that is full of history. It has always been one of high class and is where people like Charlemagne, Charles Martel, and Ludwig Van Beethoven are from. This could account for the seemingly high culture foods such as bakeries and chocolates and foods of the sort. Belgium is also known for having the least number of McDonalds per capita in the developed world which backs up the idea that belgian culture is a little more high class.
