Peace, Grease and Bacon Grease. The three words to describe Polish cuisine. Polish cuisine, stop counting your calories. Typical meals are very hearty and often contain a lot of meat and a lot of cream and eggs. Just sampling them is enough to discover that they are really delicious and worth putting on a few ounces on your plat. But the big reason Poles are big is because of the meal plan. The main meal might be eaten about 2 p.m. or later. It is larger than the North American lunch. It might be composed of three courses especially among the traditionalists, starting with a soup like a popular tomato soup, followed perhaps in a restaurant by an appetizer such as herring (prepared in either cream or oil); or other cured meats and vegetable salads. The main course usually includes a serving of meat, such as roast or breaded pork cutlet, or chicken. A shot of vodka is an appropriate addition to festive meals and help you to digest the food. As you can see poles love to keep their cuisines traditional and I don't blame them it is delicious. When my grandmother cooks she keeps all the fat and Grease still on the meat "to give it the wonderful Polish taste". Then theirs my mothers cooking of Polish food that is more "healthy" where she cuts every ounce of fat of the meat and doesn't us one drop of grease. of course it doesn't come out tasting the same but it is the same traditional meal but more "American". So yes Polish food can be changed in different ways to be dieter but there is no way they would change their food traditions now.

  1. OH my gosh this Polish food sounds like it is for me. Well mostly just the grease and bacon grease. I don't know how I would feel if I had to eat my largest meal at lunchtime because I'm usually not that hungry. But I guess if that is the way you grow up it would be easier. I can relate to how your grandmother keeps the fat on the meat for meals. My grandmother does the same when our family makes Swedish meatballs. After the meatballs cook, we transfer the meatballs into a big pot. And then we tip the tray over to collect all the juices and grease. The gravy is honestly so delicious but really unhealthy. The one thing your culture has in common with Cherokkee Indian culture is that vegetables are served at meals.

  2. I thought that was a very clever intro David, it really grabbed my attention and made me want to continue reading. Polish food sounds very tasty to me being that I love meat especially bacon and all the grease that comes with it. I can see some similarities between American cultures of food compared to polish style but there are not very many similarities with France. French food consists of more exotic foods. Polish food looks to be delicious I cant wait to see and taste what greasy food you bring in.
