Reflection question Jan-Feb
1. The
theme that was being conveyed is that they are being repressed and that there
is no free will. The people are hopeless and are entrapped. The atmosphere of
this passage is that this will always be here and it is a never ending cycle. In addition the author hints to rebellions in
the future. This related to Mexican culture because the elders are respected
and that it is shunned to go against the rules and regulations.
2. This
relates to the theme of rebellion because they show a willingness to break the
rules but a quick slap on the wrist will stop the rebellion. Pedro is not truly
rebelling; he is just running up to the line but refuses to cross the line and
runs away. However Tita embraces it and fully crosses the line and rebels
against her mother’s wishes. Tita shows a stronger rebellion.
