More Family than I Knew I Had

Any time there is a party or a holiday that can be celebrated I
find that the Uncles form Alaska or third cousins are coming out of the
woodwork. I used to never understand why there were so many people that would
come from all over for a holiday.
Now that I am older I understand. It’s due to the idea that everyone is
family and that there will always be room at the table. With this invitation
for everyone you must be asking do you run out of food? Plain and simply,
no. I have been to hundreds of
Filipino parties and not once has someone not eaten or for that matter taken
food home with them. The secret
behind this is that everyone in attendance has brought enough to share and has
contributed to the massive table of foods. If the table is looking scarse,
don’t worry your Aunt’s neighbor is at the front door.

Now my favorite part, the actual food.
Everyone who has had Filipino food will tell you that his or her favorite dish
is pancit, but I’m here to tell you what mine is. Filipino Caldereta is by far
the best dish I have consumed in my life. It is like an upgraded version of a
beef stew. It has the perfect balance between beef carrots and potato with a to
die for sauce. Just thinking of it
makes my mouth water!!

I had no idea that food and family was such a key part of the Filipino culture. I wish that was something that our culture adopted on more occasions because that is nothing but fun when the whole family gets together to share a meal. And that Caldereta sounds very good, I've never had it but it would definitely be something I'm interested in.
