Is It a Little
“Fishy” In Here?
Southern
United States always has had their traditional foods. The “feel good,”
foods the south provides is well known by all Americans. One of the most famous foods is shrimp and grits. Shrimp and grits is a dish created originally by chef Bill Smith in a restaurant in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Since its start this has always been one of the most common items on a menu in the south. What makes it so good is the buttered shrimp. Most Shrimp has a more fishy taste, while southern shrimp tends to taste less fishy. Also, the sauce that is used with it makes a huge difference. Some people enjoy using gravy, while others like to have a more traditional tomato based sauce. The grits are the biggest reminder that this item is from the south. Being Shrimp is such a popular seafood item; this will be a popular food of the south forever. Despite how good it tastes, it is not necessarily the healthiest food. It’s high amount of grease and butter makes the heart cringe, but makes the stomach open it’s arms wide. The food itself is typically provided by fisherman who catch the shrimp fresh. The shrimp is then typically sold to major manufactures that then sell the shrimp to restaurants. The sauce itself, well that’s what makes a good chef, a great chef. Shrimp and grits will always be a popular item in the south as long as the southern folks continue to want a full belly and a food coma.
