The culture I am researching is Korea because it is a part of my ethnic background and I wanted to learn more about the culture. Although there are many facts about Korea that people might know , there is one that most people know. This is that there is regionalism within the culture. Regionalism occurs within the population due to a difference in customs and views; This is most evident in the Northern and southern regions of Korea. The second part of the culture is the food; the food culture within Korea is also very diverse with foods ranging from barbecued meats to fermented vegetables. Some famous Korean dishes include Bulgogi, Kimch'I, and Bibimbap. Bulgogi is shredded beef marinated in soy sauce, salt, onions, and other ingredients for about 12 hours and then grilled. Kimch’I, also known as the national dish for Korea, is vegetables fermented in kimch'i paste, onions, ginger, and other ingredients for several days. A third famous Korean dish is Bibimbap; Bibimbap is rice, an assortment of vegetables, fried egg, and seasoned meat mixed and then cooked. The geographical location of Korea is on the Korean peninsula. Korea consists of not only the Korean peninsula, but also the hundreds of smaller islands that are off the coast of the main peninsula. The neighboring countries include china and Russia. China owns the most of the neighboring land with Russia only owning only a small stretch of land that neighbors Korea. The land is also an important part of the geography in Korea, most of the land is mountains and very little of it is flat for farmers to grow crops. Due to a lot of the land being mountainous, farmers stuck to the basic foods for survival that could could be grown in the climate. Over time the people have found ways to create new foods.
