Getting to Know the Greeks

Greek Culture is one of the most recognized cultures in all of the world.  The reason I chose Greek Culture for this project was because I am half Greek.  My Grandma was born and raised in Greece, not moving to the United States until she was 23.  My Grandpa's father and mother were both Greek citizens, but because of his fathers job my Grandpa was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. I embrace my Greek heritage more than my other heritage because of the culture and the history attached to it. Being the proud Greek I am, i already know a lot about the culture; such as: the language, typical diet, what most Greeks do on a regular basis, etc.  The number one export in all of Greece is olives, and they are the world leader in exporting olives.  The main olive export the Greeks have are Kalamata.  When I went to Greece almost all of the crops they were growing were olives.  Another interesting fact about the Greek food culture is that the goat is used as there main source of meat.  Beef is not used very often in Greek Culture.  Greece the country is on the Peloponnese Peninsula, which means the country is almost completely surrounded by water.  A common misconception may be that because of being almost completely surrounded by water the Greek diet consists mostly of fish, but Greeks tend to not eat fish in there daily diet.  There are also many Greek Islands, all of which have different tastes when it comes to food.
